The Common Core State Standards was adopted June of 2010. It provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn. The Common Core Standard was adopted by 45 states and territories. With the implementation of the Common Core State Standards, New Jersey Department of Education has provided examples for schools called Model Curriculum.
What is the model curriculum?
The model curriculum is organized into five units of study, each with targeted Student Learning Objectives. Each unit contains the content of the grade that can be reasonably taught to proficiency in a six-week time period.
Why Should You Care? Many concepts are being introduced sooner. Absolute value and inequalities were concepts that were taught in 7th and 8th grade. With the Common Core Standards, 6th grade students are expected to master these concepts. These changes are affecting all grade levels including Kindergarten.
How will Elite Support Your Child's School?
Elite Tutoring will be covering the first 3 units from the Model Curriculum this summer at Elite Summer Academy. In September 2013, Elite will be starting a Common Core Enrichment program that will emulate the Model Curriculum at the same time it's being taught in your child's school.
How are we superior to other tutoring centers?
Our director, a middle school instructor, is currently implementing the Common Core Standards in her classroom. Our teachers are trained to support the Common Core standards which are necessary to support our teachers. That's why our students are successful when they leave our center.
